The new mural at the Railway Toilets has now been completed, and what a fantastic addition it is to our town! This vibrant artwork celebrates the unique flora and fauna of the Wongan-Ballidu region, bringing colour, life and a strong sense of place to a well-used public space. Carefully designed to reflect our local environment, the mural is a visual reminder of the beauty that surrounds us every day.
The project was shaped through a dedicated engagement session with key stakeholders, where local groups came together to help identify the native species featured in the design. This collaborative approach has ensured the mural truly represents our community and landscape. The mural has been brought to life by talented artist Brenton See, whose work captures both the detail and spirit of the Wheatbelt. His ability to transform community ideas into a striking visual piece has resulted in something the whole town can be proud of.
Throughout the mural, you’ll find a range of local plant species including Yellow Featherflower, Pink Pokers, Prickly Toothbrushes, Dainty Donkey Orchid, Wells’ Dampiera, Painted Featherflower and the Wongan Triggerplant, alongside local wildlife such as the Short-beaked Echidna, Red-capped Robin and Thorny Devil. Keep a close eye as you explore, you might also spot some of the hidden native bees woven into the artwork, including the Red-eyed Bee, Violaceous Masked Bee, Waroona Cuckoo Bee and Blue-banded Bee.
This project has been a wonderful example of local collaboration, with contributions from:
• Shire of Wongan-Ballidu
• Kondut Sports Council
• Wongan Hills Visitors Centre
• Wongan Hills Community Store
• Wongan Hills Progress Association
• Wongan Hills Art Society
• Wongan Hills CWA
The finished mural not only enhances the space but also creates a welcoming and visually engaging experience for both locals and visitors. Be sure to take a moment to stop by, have a look and see how many native species and hidden bees you can spot!
