The Shire recently welcomed Lachlan Hunter MP, who met with the Shire President Stuart Boekeman, Chief Executive Officer Sam Dolzadeli and executive staff to discuss a range of important local priorities.

The new mural at the Railway Toilets has now been completed, and what a fantastic addition it is to our town! This vibrant artwork celebrates the unique flora and fauna of the Wongan-Ballidu region, bringing colour, life and a strong sense of place to a well-used public space. Carefully designed to reflect our local environment, the mural is a visual reminder of the beauty that surrounds us every day.

With warmer weather now easing and conditions returning to normal, the pool will officially close for the season at 5pm on Wednesday, 1 April.

If you’ve driven past the Wongan Hills Community Park lately, you may have noticed a splash of pink and grey brightening up the street. The vibrant Galah mural painted across the side of John Pauley’s shed has quickly become a cheerful feature of the area, a colourful nod to one of Australia's most iconic feathered residents.

At yesterday’s Council Meeting, all five of the recently elected Councillors were officially sworn in, witnessed by Dave McFarlane, JP.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination and shared their ideas for naming the laneway. We received a fantastic response with strong community support for several suggestions including names with important historical ties to the laneway specifically.

We’re excited to announce that the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu has once again been fully funded by the National Australia Day Council (NADC) through the 2026 Community Events Grant Program to deliver our much-loved Australia Day Pool Party!

The Wongan Hills Memorial Swimming Pool officially opens for the season on Saturday, 25 October at 12pm!

Permits are required within restricted burning periods. Contact your local Bush Fire Control Officer for a permit to burn. Conditions apply to permits stipulating how burning shall be carried out. Any burning carried out without a permit or without following applied conditions are subject to fines.
