Mangaart Miya Nyungar Culture and Heritage Centre

Mangaart Miya Nyungar Culture and Heritage Centre is a welcoming cottage filled with Nyungar knowledge, culture and history, set amongst a beautiful native garden in Ballidu.

Located close to the Ballidu Heritage Centre, visitors are invited to wander through and learn about the world’s oldest living culture while gaining a deeper understanding of the traditions, stories and history of the Nyungar people.

Owned and operated by Tracey de Grussa, a proud Ballardong woman, Mangaart Miya aims to raise awareness about Aboriginal culture while providing a welcoming doorway for visitors to learn more about Nyungar culture and history. Tracey welcomes everyone and anyone to call in for a yarn over a cuppa.

Mangaart Miya, translating in English to “Jam Tree House”, is located on Ballardong Country.

Explore displays that share knowledge about the six Nyungar seasons and the weather patterns that have guided life on Country for generations. Learn about the 14 language groups that make up the Nyungar nation of the South-West of Western Australia, learn about traditional Nyungar hunting methods and cultural practices, and browse displays and learn the Nyungar names of our native flora and fauna found on Ballardong boodja (country).

The centre also features artwork created by talented local artists, educational exhibits that reflect both the richness of Aboriginal culture and the history that has shaped our nation, and a gift section where visitors can take a piece of Nyungar culture out into the world with them.

The centre provides an opportunity to celebrate, respect and learn about the Traditional Owners of this land while fostering greater understanding and connection within the community.

Workshops in basket weaving, Nyungar art and Nyungar language coming soon! Contact Tracey for more information or to register your interest.
