Major Infrastructure Funding Awarded: Wongan Hills Airport

On 28 July 2021, the Deputy Prime Minister announced $29.6 million in Australian Government funding for 89 projects under round two of the Regional Airports Program. The program aims to improve the safety of aircraft, operators and passengers using regional airports or aerodromes. The Shire of Wongan-Ballidu is pleased to announce its successful inclusion in this project. $300,000 in funding has been approved to upgrade the following infrastructure at the Wongan Hills airport:

  • Expand the helipad and apron
  • Widen the taxiway
  • Fencing and drainage works
  • Construction of a patient shelter

Shire CEO Stuart Taylor on hearing the news of the Shire’s successful application said he “was pleased that this funding will contribute towards maintaining infrastructure to a high level. This will also ensure that the operational requirements of emergency services in the region can be met."
