Launching the 'When Will We Meet Again?' Road Safety Campaign
The Shire of Wongan-Ballidu is excited to launch its impactful road safety campaign, "When Will We Meet Again?". This campaign, in collaboration with our dedicated local emergency services, is designed to inspire safer driving habits and encourage all of us to think about the role we play in preventing accidents.
The simple but powerful question posed by the campaign, “When will we meet again?” reminds us that while our first responders are always ready to assist, they’d much rather meet us in positive, social settings like a BBQ or community event, not at the scene of a crash. This question invites all drivers to reflect on their behaviour behind the wheel, motivating us to make choices that protect ourselves, others, and the brave first responders who serve our community.
Why This Campaign Matters
The need for this campaign is critical. The Wheatbelt region has one of the highest rates of road traffic accidents in Western Australia, and the emotional toll of these incidents is deeply felt by both those involved and the first responders. Many of our local emergency service workers are volunteers who often know those they’re helping, making their roles especially challenging. This campaign is about recognising that the consequences of unsafe driving extend far beyond the individual—it impacts families, communities, and the selfless volunteers who respond.
The Inspiration Behind the Campaign
The inspiration for "When Will We Meet Again?" came from National Road Safety Week 2023, where the Shire organised a car crash reenactment at Wongan Hills District High School. This demonstration showed students the real-life impacts of distracted driving and unsafe behaviour on the road. With road traffic accidents continuing to be a major issue in our region, the campaign aims to reduce these incidents and increase awareness about the importance of making safer driving choices.

Acknowledging Our First Responders
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the following local services for their partnership and ongoing commitment:
-
Wongan Hills Police
-
Wongan Hills St John Ambulance
-

-
Ballidu Volunteer Fire and Emergency Service
Your unwavering commitment to the safety of our community is invaluable, and we are truly grateful for the sacrifices you make.
Campaign Support and Funding
This campaign has been made possible thanks to funding from the Road Safety Commission. Their contribution helps us spread the message far and wide, encouraging more people to take responsibility for the safety of our roads.
How You Can Help
- Reflect on your driving habits—ask yourself, “When will we meet again?” and make safer choices behind the wheel.
- Share this campaign with your friends, family, and fellow community members.
- Start a conversation about road safety and encourage others to do the same.
Together, we can reduce road accidents, support our first responders, and ensure that we’re meeting each other at better places—like a BBQ, not the scene of a crash.
Let’s make our roads safer for everyone. Stay alert, drive responsibly, and let’s all do our part to prevent accidents.
