Keep me Posted - SMS Messaging Service for Residents

Published on Thursday, 20 May 2021 at 10:50:05 AM

Our Harvest Ban and Vehicle Movement Ban messaging service has been an effective means of communicating with subscribers for many years. The SMS service is especially suitable for our farming community who don’t always have access to a public computer or Facebook to receive important DFES updates (Department of Fire and Emergency Services).

We are pleased to advise that we will be extending this service to include a wider range of messaging services to suit community members who don’t have internet access or prefer to receive SMS messages directly to their mobile phones.

Speaking on behalf of Council, Shire CEO Stuart Taylor said “the Shire is pleased to provide this service which now includes even more options for residents to receive important information, and we hope by extending the service offering we can stay more connected and keep everyone informed.” It will also make it easier for us to tailor information according to specific services and according to what is important to individual residents. There will be an option to subscribe to one or several messaging services including:

Emergency Information

Swimming Pool Closures

Road Closures (Shire road network only)

Harvest Bans/Vehicle Movement Bans

Changes to waste collection dates/Verge collection notices

Television Retransmission Outages

Rates Payment Notices

Public Notices

Overdue Library Item Notices

To protect the privacy of subscribers to any of the above-mentioned services, Council recently adopted a Privacy of Information Policy.  Our Council Policy Manual can be viewed by clicking the link.    A summary of the policy can also be found on the reverse side of the 'Keep me Posted' application form, available at either the CRC or Shire administration building.

We ask that residents inform us of any change in their contact details, either by calling 96571 2500, via email shire@wongan.wa.gov.au or in person by visiting the Shire administration building or CRC.
