Wongan Hills Airstrip Lighting

Published: Friday, 21 December 2018 at 10:24:30 AM

The Shire of Wongan-Ballidu wishes to inform the community and all users of the Wongan Hills Airstrip that currently the runway lights remain out of service.

Recently, the airport experienced a lightning strike which has damaged all the runway and taxiway lighting.

To resolve the issue the entire system will need to be replaced.  This will take approximately twelve weeks to manufacture the required lights and an additional two weeks to install them.

In the interim, the Shire have limited portable emergency lighting for the runway that may be sufficient in allowing the RFDS to use the runway at this time.

Unfortunately, the Shire has not been able to immediately access the required number of emergency lighting for normal night time operations of the Airstrip.

It is possible that the additional required lights will be available and in place between Christmas and New Year.  If this is the case, the Airstrip will operate normally with full night time operability of emergency lighting, including radio operated lighting until the permanent lights are installed.

Updates will be made available as soon as possible.

For further information please contact either Melissa Marcon (Building Services Coordinator) or Karl Mickle (Manager Works & Services) at the Administration Office on 9671 1011.
