Wongan Hills Airstrip Lighting

Published: Wednesday, 14 August 2019 at 12:43:35 PM

Residents may recall the lightning storm which caused irreparable damage to the halogen lighting units at the Wongan Hills airstrip. During the downtime, the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu provided a temporary lighting solution to ensure minimal disruption, particularly to essential services such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

We are pleased to advise the installation of an improved LED lighting system is now complete. Taking the latest technology into consideration, the clear choice for the replacement lighting were pilot activated units. This lighting solution is cost-effective, environmentally friendly and low maintenance. The solar-powered, pilot activated temporary lighting used while replacement works were carried out will remain the property of the Shire, serving as a back-up should there be any unforeseen disruptions in the future.

The addition of extra taxi lights at either end of the runway ensures enhanced visibility, an improvement we are certain will be well received by all flight operators.

On behalf of the team at the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu, thank you for your patience and understanding while the upgrade was carried out. For further information, contact the Works and Services Team on (08) 9671 2500.
