Resignation Announcement - Shire President

Shire of Wongan-Ballidu President Cr Jon Hasson officially tendered his resignation as Council Member and Shire President, effective 24 March 2021. Cr Hasson was first elected to council in 2015 and subsequently served as Deputy Shire President before taking over the reins from Cr Peter Macnamara in 2019.

The Shire reluctantly accepted Cr Hasson's resignation with CEO Mr Stuart Taylor saying “Jon has made a significant contribution to our community over a number of years and his presence on council will be missed. We acknowledge Cr Hasson for his commitment to the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu and for his hard work and effort in making our Shire a great place to live and work”.

Cr Hasson’s decision to pursue new interests further afield and his ongoing commitment to his family played a significant part in the difficult decision to step down from council. “It is with reluctance that as a part of moving on to different pursuits in my life that I needed to give up my role on council. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time serving as an elected member and would like to thank everyone I've worked with for their support over the duration of my service. I wish the incoming president, councillors and staff all the best in the future. I can assure the community that they are in good hands with the team at the Shire”, he said.

Council will consider the appointment of a new Shire President at the next Ordinary Meeting of Council to be held at 3pm on Wednesday 28 April 2021.

Council members and the shire team wish Cr Hasson the very best in his future endeavours.
