Community Development Fund Update

Published on Thursday, 20 August 2020 at 8:58:15 AM

The Shire’s annual Community Development fund is one way in which Council is able to partner with community groups in strengthening our community and bringing projects to the fore that provide benefits for all and also contribute to the cultural, environmental and economic development of our community.

This year, the community groups who applied for project specific funding demonstrated great initiative and foresight in their grant applications and Council are pleased to be providing support to the following successful applicants:

Wongan Cubbyhouse - Installation of a Solar PV system to significantly reduce operating costs.

Wongan-Ballidu Districts Menshed - “Let there be Light” - a brilliant plan to replace existing lighting with LED technology to reduce operational costs and improve lighting for member safety.

Wongan Hills Anglican Church - to lay bitumen on the gravel driveway. This will significantly improve access to this popular community hub.

In addition to the above funding specific projects, Council are pleased to confirm their support to the following groups and events over the 2020-21 financial year:

Australia Day Function (Ballidu), Bike it to Ballidu, Christmas Lights Competition, Progress Association Harvest Festival, Wheatbelt Masters Football Carnival, Rotary Seniors Christmas Lunch, Ballidu Contemporary Art Society, Ballidu Heritage Centre, Ballidu Sports Council, Cadoux Sports Council, Elizabeth Telfer Centre, Wongan Hills Cricket Club, Wongan Hills Museum, Wongan Hills Sports Council, Wongan Hills Tourist Group, Wongan Hills District High School Scholarship, Wongan Hills Arts Society, Wongan-Ballidu BushCare, Wongan Hills Tidy Towns and Cadoux Christmas Tree.

Shire President Jon Hasson extended his thanks to all community groups within the Shire for their dedication and hard work in making Wongan-Ballidu a great place to live. “Despite Council being under pressure to freeze rates and maintain fees and charges in light of the Covid-19 Pandemic, I trust the decision not to take away funding from our community groups demonstrates our commitment” he said. The Community Development Fund also responds to the priorities and vision of our community as set out in our long term strategic plan.

The Shire’s annual Community Development Fund 2021-2022 will be announced in early 2021. For further information, visit our website: www.wongan.wa.gov.au/community or call Alana Wigmore on 9671 2550.
