Council has approved the Shire’s 2020/21 Budget at a special meeting held on Wednesday 8 July.  At the request of State Government, local councils were asked not to increase rates for the coming financial year.  Some councils have chosen to adhere to the rates freeze in dollar terms but to increase rates raised through an increase in property values.  “We would like to reassure our residents that this is not the case for the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu” said Shire President Jon Hasson.  “Rates raised will remain exactly the same as last year” he added.
Consistent with the Shire’s strategic objective of stimulating economic growth during the COVID-19 recovery phase, the budget reflects Council’s commitment to developing community infrastructure, promoting tourism and supporting community projects.  Council is also pleased that a healthy reserve fund of $1.39M has been maintained by Shire management.  “This is a great reflection of our financial resilience” said Councillor Hasson in closing.  Budget highlights are featured in the Shire’s 2020/21 Ratepayers Guide due to be distributed to residents this week.
